Dafna H. Rand has been nominated to serve as assistant secretary for democracy, human rights, and labor in the U.S. Department of State and is on leave of absence from Brookings.
Rand has spent 20 years invested in public service impact – through her work in the U.S. Senate, at the National Security Council, at the State Department, and as the vice president of research and policy at Mercy Corps. Outside of government, she has also served as the deputy director of studies at the Center for a New American Security.
Currently, Rand is a lecturer in the School of Public and International Affairs at Princeton University, a distinguished resident fellow in strategic affairs at Georgetown University, and a nonresident senior fellow in the Center for Middle East Policy at Brookings.
