Christopher Severen is an economic advisor and economist at the Federal Reserve Bank of Philadelphia.
Severen studies urban and environmental economics, with a particular focus in transportation, land use, and development. He has written articles on transportation and land use regulation in California, the causes and effects of automobility during formative years, and climate change valuation. His work has appeared in the Review of Economics and Statistics, the American Economic Journal: Applied Economics, and the Journal of Urban Economics, among other outlets. Recent papers examine the evolution of racialized differences in commuting outcomes in the U.S., how teen driving restrictions impact educational attainment, and the effects of large transit expansions in Mexico City.
Education:
Severen earned his doctorate in economics from the University of California, Santa Barbara in 2017 and his bachelor’s in economics in Latin American studies from the University of Texas at Austin in 2009.
