David Damore is a Nonresident Senior Fellow in Governance Studies at the Brookings Institution and a professor of political science at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas, where he teaches undergraduate and graduate courses in American politics and research methods and serves as department chair and the interim executive director of Brookings Mountain West. David’s research focuses on electoral politics and applied public policy and he regularly provides commentary on Nevada politics and policy to state, national, and international media outlets.
David is the co-author of the recently published Brookings Institution Press book Blue Metros, Red States: The Shifting Urban-Rural Divide in America’s Swing State. The volume examines how the increasing demographic, political, economic, and socio-cultural differences between Democratic-leaning million-plus metropolitan regions and the Republican-leaning balance of their states affect electoral and policy outcomes in the swing states. He currently is working on a book-length manuscript with Robert Lang and Karen Danielsen assessing how demographic change is reshaping suburban planning and politics in America’s largest metropolitan regions.
David earned his Ph.D. from the University of California, Davis (2000), his M.A. from the University of Georgia (1995), and his B.A. from the University of California, San Diego (1992), all in political science.
